Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in the culinary arts field, preferably in an educational or instructional setting.
  • Current certification in food sanitation preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills.
  • Experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the culinary instructors in teaching the Massachusetts Culinary Frameworks, adapting to different learning styles and student backgrounds.
  • Support the development of occupational skills and knowledge to help students become competent in the culinary field.
  • Aid in the preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities within the allotted class time.
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and discipline.
  • Demonstrate the use of occupational materials, equipment, and processes using standard models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aides.
  • Guide students in selecting and performing appropriate activities to attain required competencies.
  • Provide individual and group assistance tailored to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed.
  • Mentor students on the importance of postsecondary education, training, and a strong work ethic.
  • Collaborate with the CTE Director and Co-op coordinator to ensure students have work-based experiences, including co-ops.
  • Instruct students on appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in controlling the storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Help establish and maintain standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment.
  • Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors regarding individual student progress.
  • Assist in evaluating student performance, knowledge, and skills in the course, and prepare progress reports.
  • Assist in the daily operation of the student-run restaurant, ensuring smooth workflow and quality service.
  • Make supply runs as needed to maintain adequate inventory for classroom and restaurant needs.
  • Support the planning and execution of special events, collaborating with culinary instructors and other staff.
