Now Hiring: Career Advisor I (Part-Time) Location: Reporting onsite in Abilene, TX Schedule: Four-day workweek, generally 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour Make an Impact Where It Matters Most Are you passionate about helping individuals navigate their career paths, overcome barriers to employment, and access meaningful opportunities? This part-time Career Advisor I role offers the opportunity to make a direct, positive impact within the local community while maintaining a balanced, flexible schedule. You will work closely with jobseekers from diverse backgrounds, guiding them through career exploration, training options, and workforce programs that lead to sustainable employment outcomes. What You Will Do As a Career Advisor I, you will serve as a trusted guide and advocate for jobseekers by delivering comprehensive, individualized career services.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of workforce development, economic development, and case or project management practices.
  • Understanding of career counseling, individual case management, and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and general office technology.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and adapt communication styles as needed.
  • Calm, professional approach when handling challenging or high-stress customer situations.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with management, coworkers, board staff, and the public.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with proof of insurance and a satisfactory driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior workforce development or related experience strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth career assessments for a wide range of customers, including professional-level individuals and those with significant barriers to employment.
  • Evaluate occupational interests, vocational skills, employment history, and long-term career goals to help customers make informed career decisions.
  • Empower and motivate jobseekers to secure employment by connecting them with appropriate local, state, and federal workforce programs and services.
  • Complete intake activities and determine eligibility for grant-funded workforce programs.
  • Guide participants through career development and exploration using aptitude assessments, interviewing techniques, resume development, and career planning tools.
  • Provide accurate labor market information, including job outlooks, qualifications, and wage expectations across industries.
  • Deliver job readiness support, including resume writing, mock interviews, and effective job search strategies.
  • Educate customers on training options, educational vendors, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities aligned with their career interests.
  • Refer participants to occupational skills training, work-based learning, apprenticeships, and other professional development programs.
  • Prepare and submit Individual Training Accounts (ITAs), work-based training requests, and supportive service requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an active caseload, providing ongoing case management, career advising, and progress monitoring to ensure completion of academic or occupational goals.
  • Identify ongoing needs and connect customers to internal or external support services that remove barriers to success.
