Requirements

1 year of janitorial experience or a combination of education and experience
Experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings is an asset
Knowledge of WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
General knowledge of cleanliness and sanitation
General computer skills such as using MS Office and internet

Responsibilities

Cleans building floors by sweeping and mopping. Strips, seals, finish, and polish floors.
Gathers and empties trash.
Services, cleans, and provides supplies to restrooms.
Cleans walls, windows, glass partitions, mirrors, vents, fans and some ducts using appropriate tools.
Cleans, dusts and polishes furniture, fixtures and any other equipment.
Vacuums, steam-cleans or shampoos carpets.
Cleans and restores building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water.
Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prepare cleaning solutions and prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Moves heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
Mows and trim lawns and shrubbery, using mowers and hand and power trimmers, and clear debris from property grounds.
Notifies managers of need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Removes snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using appropriate tools such as snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals.
Requires supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
Sets up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
Takes on other responsibilities as assigned.
