Organization: Intensive Care Unit Job Summary: JOB SUMMARY The Patient Care Technician is responsible for assisting in direct patient care specific to the unit assigned; assisting with patient transfers and repositioning, transporting of patients, supplies, or specimens; and any other duties as deemed necessary to ensure optimal patient care and physician service, under the direction and supervision of the professional nurse. The Patient Care Technician is responsible to the Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Clinical Supervisor, Department Manager/Director, Nursing Supervisor, Associate Directors of Nursing Services and the Chief Nursing Officer. . POSITION HOURS Three (3) 12-hour shifts 6:45 a.m. - 7:15 p.m. Rotating based on unit need. No specific workdays or days off can be guaranteed. DEPARTMENT SUMMARY Our patients are unique because of their specialized needs and wide variety of diagnoses. We care for adult patients with many different critical illnesses. This patient population will allow you the opportunity to become comfortable with all body system needs. Care for patients, including : myocardial infarction acute respiratory failure shock diabetic keto acidosis multi-system organ failure KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provides patient care based upon the nursing process in accordance with the hospitals mission & vision, as directed and observed by the RN/LPN. Ability to work under limited supervision and to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to demonstrate effective communications skills, empathy, and unconditional positive regard toward all patients and co-workers. Compliance with organizational requirements, including policies, procedures and regulations specific to the unit. Flexibility in schedule in order to meet the needs of the patients, community and staff. Maintains annual education requirements prior to due date. Knowledge and implementation of standardized PPE regarding the prevention / transmission of infectious disease / isolation processes.
