The environment in The Adult Emergency Department is fast-paced, high-volume, and staff is like a family. We care for all patients who present to our department to be treated for emergent medical conditions. Our patients are unique because we never know who is going to come through our doors. One of the perks of working in my department is the opportunity to treat patients with a wide array of illnesses and injuries. We orient new staff by providing individualized orientation based on the unique needs of the staff member. PRN Night Shift - 6:45 pm - 7:15 am PRN staff are required to work a minimum of four 12-hour shifts every six weeks; however, candidates must commit to two 12-hour shifts per week for the first 4 weeks of employment for orientation. Three additional on-campus classes must be taken throughout the 6-week orientation, which includes ED Bootcamp, Handle With Care, and Mass Decon Training, which all have set dates and meet typically only once a month. All Employees (Night shift & PRN included) are required to attend hospital orientation during regular daytime hours during the first week of employment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) AND one of the following:
  • Current enrollment in a professional nursing RN program with successful completion of the first semester (including nursing fundamentals clinical)
  • Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (certificate of completion required)
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience (within the past two years) as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Assists with day to day delivery of patient care.
  • Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
  • Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
  • Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
