About The Position

Care Partners are responsible for meeting the basic needs of patients by providing skilled levels of bedside patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Care Partners also perform clerical duties necessary to the functioning of the nursing unit.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent and at least 18 years of age.
  • Completion of learning program with 80% passing score on written and skills performance examination.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Other resuscitation certifications may be required dependent on department.

Nice To Haves

  • Post High School vocational/specialized training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • General Patient Care: Carries out the patient’s plan of care as it relates to the patient’s physical needs under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Safety and Comfort: Correctly places restraints; observes for constriction of circulation, changes to skin integrity, adequate breathing; knows when and how to change position; provides range of motion (ROM) and skin care, toileting, and opportunities for socialization.
  • Vital Signs/Measurement: Completes Point of Care Testing as approved by hospital and competency
  • Mobility and Exercise: Applies Pneumatic Air Stockings / Ted Hose
  • Respiratory Care: Assists with incentive spirometry and cough / deep breath.
  • Wound Care: Places patient on specialty bed
  • Bowel and Bladder Elimination: Administers enemas
  • Hygiene: Provides hygiene and grooming daily
  • Specimen Collection: Obtains midstream (clean-voided) urine specimen.
  • Clerical: Answers phone within 3 rings identifying self, title and nursing unit. Does not keep person on hold for extended periods.
  • Safety/Infection Control: Performs job in accordance with safety and infection control policies.
  • Service: Provides service excellence to the customers of Saint Louis University Hospital by delivering timely, high quality care in a courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Personal Accountability: Demonstrates accountability for own job performance.
  • Performance Improvement (PI): Incorporates Performance Improvement into one's job performance.
  • Age Appropriate Care: Provides age-appropriate care to:
  • Specialized Care: Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury.
