About The Position

The Behavioral Health Core Faculty member plays a vital role in the education and well-being of Family Medicine residents. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the behavioral health curriculum across all PGY levels, supporting clinical education, promoting resident wellness, and participating in key administrative functions of the residency program. The role combines teaching, clinical service, committee participation, and faculty development, in alignment with ACGME requirements.

Requirements

  • Licensed mental health professional.
  • Prior experience in graduate medical education and curriculum development preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the biopsychosocial model and integrated care principles.
  • Commitment to resident education, wellness, and academic excellence.
  • Minimum 1 day/week of clinical care.
  • Flexible teaching schedule with some longitudinal responsibilities to align with clinic flow.
  • Committee participation and didactic scheduling as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
  • Develop and implement behavioral health curricula across PGY1-PGY3.
  • Precept residents in clinic settings and observe behavioral health interactions.
  • Facilitate behavioral health orientation for new residents.
  • Conduct monthly clinical case conferences to enhance the clinician-patient relationship.
  • Deliver structured lectures and educational sessions approximately once per month.
  • Assist with development and coordination of behavioral health and psychiatry-related didactic content.
  • Provide direct patient care at least one full day per week.
  • Serve as a model for integrating behavioral health into primary care settings.
  • Serve as a core member of the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC).
  • Attend biannual evaluations and participate in additional meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) on a quarterly basis.
  • Engage in program meetings and initiatives to maintain programmatic excellence.
  • Oversee and implement the resident wellness curriculum focused on six domains: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, professional, and financial.
  • Coordinate wellness activities, review schedules for wellness impact, and organize wellness-themed lectures and events.
  • Facilitate wellness recognition activities, such as awards and appreciation efforts during Town Halls.
  • Assist in connecting residents with the EAP and other mental health resources as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and leadership in addressing resident professionalism and performance concerns.
  • Assist with documentation and follow-through of disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Engage in scholarly activities in alignment with ACGME expectations for core faculty.
  • Participate in faculty development sessions and contribute to continuous quality improvement efforts within the department.
