About The Position

Are you ready to help coordinate clinical treatment and support a dynamic program that directly impacts the health and well-being of licensees as well as protects the public? The Montana Assistance Program (MAP) works for the department on behalf of 6 licensing boards and 1 licensing program. The program is available to over 60,000 licensed Montana providers who may be suffering from substance abuse, mental, or physical issues. As care coordinator you serve as the initial point of contact and liaison for licensees seeking to utilize the program (participants). The role plays a significant part in ensuring that the public is protected and licensees get access to care without the associated stigma. MISSION STATEMENT: Empowering all Montanans through work and opportunity. Position Overview: As Care Coordinator, you will provide initial non-clinical intervention to licensees in crisis. Additionally, the role directly supports the MAP Program Coordinator in ensuring compliance with regulations as well as facilitating the overall operations of the program. The role blends your combined expertise in support of a larger organization that directly impacts the public and licensees. This is a non-treatment position.

Requirements

Provide Support and Initial Analysis: Support includes active listening skills to understand licensees’ needs, identify barriers, and recommend an initial course of action in line with existing policies, procedures, and best practices. Provide clear verbal and written communication to explain the program, options, next steps and expectations to licensees and the public.
Interpret and Implement Laws and Regulations: Maintain a general understanding of occupational safety and health practices. Ability to interpret, communicate, and apply state and federal safety statutes, rules, and regulations.
Planning and Program Development: Experience in designing and delivering measured care to persons suffering from substance use issues, mental or physical illnesses. Dedicated to fostering a caring and empathetic environment for participants and other staff.
Problem Solving and Critical Thinking: Strong ability to analyze information and data to identify risks and potential solutions for internal and external parties.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate with participants and licensees. Skilled in de-escalation or prior experience with persons who are not processing information in a clear manner. Ability to convey a positive and professional image on behalf of the department in all interactions. At times, the Care Coordinator may be called to provide testimony on behalf of the program in license discipline proceedings, civil, or criminal litigation as required by law.
Stakeholder Engagement: Interpersonal skills for building trust and partnerships with participants, clinical assessors, businesses, or other third parties in furtherance of programmatic goals. Skilled at de-escalation and communicating with people experiencing crisis. Able to proactively identify and cultivate resources for staff and participants.
Technology Proficiency: Ability to utilize digital systems and databases to ensure proper tracking in compliance with state retention policies. Skills should include, but are not limited to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Etc.). Experience with case tracking software is preferred.
Active Montana licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) license, in good standing.
Knowledge of the disease of chemical dependency and principles of recovery.
Experience implementing federal and state laws related to medical treatment and privacy.
Skills may be gained through a combination of professional experience, training, or education.
Valid Montana driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Assist the Program Coordinator by fielding calls from licensees in crisis and evaluating next steps. Up to and including interviewing, obtaining additional information, and providing recommendations for clinical assessment or appropriate alternatives.
Identify and establish relationships with treatment providers, ensuring an up-to-date roster of not only clinical treatment providers but also resources participants may need.
Advocate for participants in the delivery of services in alignment with monitoring agreements.
Work with colleagues to ensure consistent treatment, monitoring, documentation and referral of licensees in need of the program’s services.
Intake complaints or issues related to program operations and forward to the Program Coordinator to evaluate next steps. These issues may be from participants, clinical assessors, or the public.
Ensures accurate documentation and provides clerical support including preparing routine correspondence, scheduling, phone coverage, filing, print, copy and scanning/digital file maintenance.
May maintain their own monitoring caseload in times of significant use or limited absences, the Care Coordinator can assist monitoring staff and licensees by ensuring continuity of contact with the program.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective on July 1, 2026.
