About The Position

AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Cardiovascular Technician to provide specialized cardiovascular procedural support at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC), Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The Cardiovascular Technician will assist physicians and the cardiovascular team in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures within the cardiac catheterization laboratory and interventional radiology environment. This role involves preparing equipment, monitoring patient status during procedures, operating imaging and physiological monitoring systems, assisting with sterile procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record. The Cardiovascular Technician will work collaboratively with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare staff to deliver safe and effective cardiovascular care and support emergency procedures as part of the hospital’s 24/7 STEMI and interventional teams.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular and interventional training program within the United States.
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Minimum of 5 years of catheterization laboratory experience after graduating from an accredited cardiovascular training program.
Current, active RCIS credential required.
Must be a U.S. Citizen to perform duties under this federal contract.
Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and cardiac catheterization procedures
Ability to operate cardiovascular imaging and monitoring equipment
Experience with interventional cardiology devices including catheters, guidewires, balloons, and stents
Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and pressure waveforms
Knowledge of sterile technique and procedural safety standards
Strong communication and teamwork skills in a high-pressure procedural environment
Ability to respond quickly during cardiac emergencies
Must comply with WRNMMC immunization requirements for patient-facing roles.
Must pass federal background checks and complete credentialing through WRNMMC.

Responsibilities

Assist physicians during cardiac catheterization procedures including left and right heart catheterization, angioplasty, coronary stent placement, and ventricular imaging.
Serve as scrub assistant, circulator, monitor technician, and imaging equipment operator during cardiovascular and interventional procedures.
Perform pre-procedure patient assessments including reviewing patient history, medications, and clinical symptoms.
Obtain laboratory tests, 12-lead EKGs, and chest X-rays and document all patient data within the electronic health record.
Initiate intravenous access, obtain vital signs, provide patient education, and assist in preparation for procedures.
Prepare sterile fields, perform antiseptic site preparation, and apply sterile draping following Joint Commission standards.
Assist in procedural sedation administration, including proper documentation, patient monitoring, and use of reversal agents when required.
Operate physiological monitoring equipment and interpret cardiac rhythms, pressure waveforms, and signs of ischemia or infarction.
Operate imaging equipment such as C-arm systems, fluoroscopy, and digital subtraction angiography to capture cardiovascular images.
Identify coronary anatomy, analyze vessel projections, recognize lesions, and assist in measuring coronary valve and vessel characteristics.
Operate contrast pressure injectors and adjust injection parameters including pressure, volume, and flow rate.
Assist with intravascular ultrasound, fractional flow reserve measurements, temporary pacemakers, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and foreign body retrieval devices.
Apply manual compression and operate closure devices such as radial compression devices, suture-based closure systems, and collagen plugs.
Monitor patients during recovery and document assessments and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
Support ACLS resuscitation efforts and maintain emergency equipment and crash carts.
Perform routine checks on medical equipment and ensure operational readiness for procedures.
Maintain supply inventory, order equipment and disposable supplies, and ensure procedural areas remain fully stocked.
Clean and prepare procedure rooms between cases and coordinate instrument sterilization with sterile processing.
Participate in the 24/7 on-call STEMI and interventional radiology team for emergency procedures.
Assist in orientation and training of new staff, medical students, and other clinical personnel.
Maintain training records, answer patient inquiries, track dosimeter use, and complete readiness checklists.
