About The Position

Cardiovascular Technologist I is an entry level professional in the Cardiac Cath Lab or Electrophysiology Lab, with direct patient care during these procedures in the scrub and monitor positions. The technologist is responsible for helping develop and implement systems to assure the smooth and efficient flow of patients for procedures in the Cardiovascular labs. Responsible for performing specialized technologist roles within the Cardiovascular procedure setting. Operates high technology equipment and utilizes products under the direct supervision of a qualified physician to assist with procedures performed. Duties for this position include but are not limited to monitoring and scrubbing roles during procedures, patient teaching, assisting with patient care within scope of practice, inventory management and schedule coordination.

Requirements

  • Graduate Paramedic program or Commission of Accreditation of Allied health Education programs (CAAHEP)-accredited school of Surgical Technology
  • None, entry level for caregiver with Paramedic or Surgical Technologist background.
  • Licensed in Virginia as a Paramedic or Certified Surgical Technologist
  • BLS and ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and effectively provides procedural support for a variety of patient procedures.
  • Operates a high technology imaging system for procedures. Uses advanced critical thinking skills to manage emergency situations.
  • Ensures imaging system for procedures are appropriately operated under the direction supervision of a physician. Applies appropriate measures to minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, employees, and others.
  • Responsible for achieving quality assurance measures and requirements contributing to the successful operation of the department.
  • Assists Cardiovascular and/or Electrophysiologist proceduralist directly, utilizing sterile technique for all invasive procedures.
  • Participates in assessment and quality of equipment and daily operational supplies with the Manager and makes recommendations accordingly.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel to ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation by seeking opportunities for learning and development. Remains abreast of current developments by attending related seminars and reviewing current literature.
  • Assists in other Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology areas, if needed as workload allows.
  • Complies with PACS entry requirements for accurate patient, film, supply, tracking monitors.
  • Attends continuing education programs and completes mandatory training to maintain licensure, position specific ongoing competencies and professional growth.
  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
