The Cardiovascular Tech (CVT) plays a vital role in the cardiovascular laboratories, assisting healthcare providers in the diagnosis and treatment of serious and complex cardiovascular conditions. Key responsibilities include assisting in the scrub and circulating roles during procedures, preparing and maintaining specialized equipment, and providing excellent patient care before, during, and after procedures. The CVT collaborates and communicates effectively with the care team, adheres to all regulatory requirements, safety protocols, infection control practices, and patient confidentiality. Proficiency in pediatric, adult, and congenital specialty procedures is required. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, procedures, and technologies is essential, along with the ability to think critically and problem-solve under pressure. After adequate training, the CVT will be required to work varied hours, shift lengths, and respond to an on-call pager, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (includes cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing).
  • At least 3 years of patient care experience.
  • One (1) year of vascular or cardiovascular lab experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Must be actively working to be a certified Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) within 18 months of hire.
  • If Rad Tech (RT), must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and obtain cardiac interventional (CI) credentials within 18 months of hire.
