About The Position

The CVOR Tech III is a senior-level surgical technologist who supports complex, high-risk cardiovascular and specialty surgical procedures. This role serves as a technical expert within the Operating Room and is frequently relied upon as a mentor, resource, and lead for advanced cases. The CVOR Tech III demonstrates mastery of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique while anticipating surgeon needs and supporting optimal patient outcomes. The Surgical Technologist III assists the Operating Room team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies across a range of surgical procedures. This role functions in both first and second scrub capacities and demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge, technical skill, and situational awareness to ensure patient safety and procedural efficiency. The CVOR Tech III maintains strict sterile technique and provides high-level support during operative procedures involving adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ year of CVOR and open-heart surgical technologist experience required.
  • Strong preference for 7+ years of CVOR and endovascular/hybrid OR experience.
  • Demonstrated competency to function as lead technologist in the following specialty areas: Robotic Surgery Total Joint Procedures Neuro/Spine Burn Surgery Vascular Surgery
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a similarly sized facility with comparable surgical services.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through NCCT required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as first scrub by preparing and managing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies required for procedures.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs by demonstrating thorough knowledge of surgical procedures and workflows.
  • Maintain continuous vigilance over the sterile field to ensure patient safety and infection prevention.
  • Function as second scrub when needed, assisting surgeons and surgical assistants with tasks such as suctioning, sponging, cutting sutures, holding retractors, and manipulating endoscopic cameras.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance during complex or high-risk cases.
  • Support Operating Room efficiency through organization, communication, and teamwork.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource to less experienced surgical technologists.
