It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network and is the system’s second-largest hospital. Summary This position is an integral member of the EP Lab team, providing quality support care during electrophysiology procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education diploma. Associate or Baccalaureate degree in health science preferred.
  • One (1) year full time work experience in Electrophysiology or invasive cardiology technology with specialty training (minimum of 800 clinical hours) in electrophysiology or interventional cardiology procedures. Two (2) years full time work experience in Electrophysiology with competency in Advanced ECG interpretation with EP mapping and ablation system.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Registered Cardiovascular Interventional Specialist (RCIS) by CCI Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS). Certified in Advanced Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards
  • Knowledge of patient interaction and management including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age specific patient needs.
  • Demonstrates familiarity and proficiency with the setup and operation of all equipment associated within cardiovascular catheterization Electrophysiology procedures performed at HHC.
  • Ability to use professional judgment and critical thinking when assisting in procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares procedure room ensuring proper working equipment and adequate supplies.
  • Reviews and validates patient and procedure information (e.g. patient medical record, verify physician’s orders and patient consent), transport patients, prepares patient for procedure, etc.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures (including complex EP interventions) by monitoring vital signs and hemodynamics during the case.
  • Perform scrub duties under direct supervision of the physician, set up of sterile environment and hand off instruments.
  • Provides intra-procedural patient care support such as, but not limited to, maintaining patient comfort, maintaining patient positioning, monitoring patient vital signs, evaluating patient response to diagnostic or interventional EP maneuvers. Maintains RCES/RCIS Certification and functions under the certification guiding principles.
  • Works with the team to maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
  • Enters hemodynamic data into electronic medical records.
  • Assist in emergency procedures by operating emergency equipment. Uses BLS techniques in emergent cases. Test emergency equipment.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continued Quality improvements.
