About The Position

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting physicians during invasive procedures. This includes scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance with established policies and procedures. The specialist is responsible for the care of patients' physical and psychological needs during examinations and procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort. They provide explanations of procedures to patients, addressing any questions to alleviate anxieties and encourage cooperation. The role also involves transferring patients onto medical equipment, coordinating work for maximum productivity, setting up sterile trays, and maintaining inventory for the department. Additionally, the specialist is responsible for preventative maintenance of interventional equipment, performing routine safety checks, and cleaning equipment. Participation in professional development activities is also encouraged.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Associate's degree or higher in Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (to be obtained within 6 months).
  • Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) Course completion (to be completed within 6 months).

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification.
  • Completion of EP training program.
  • 5 years recent experience as a Cardiovascular Tech in a Cardiac Cath Lab.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Physicians in all aspects of invasive procedures.
  • Operate interventional and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
  • Care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures.
  • Provide explanations of procedures and answer patient questions.
  • Transfer patients onto medical equipment, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
  • Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Set up sterile tray, clean and dispose after procedure.
  • Participate in activities promoting professional self-growth and development.
  • Assist physician with administration of contrast media.
  • Maintain inventory for the department.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Electrophysiology (EP) program (for EP Tech only).
  • Keep current of new developments in EP (for EP Tech only).
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance of interventional equipment.
  • Clean interventional equipment.
  • Perform routine safety checks and inspections of equipment.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
