About The Position

Student Nurse PCT performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient. Minimum scheduling requirement is three 12 hours shifts in a 6-week schedule period, including one weekend shifts. Student Nurse PCT is also required to work one Winter and one Summer holiday.

Requirements

• Less than one year of previous job-related experience.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
• Nursing - CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) certification.
• Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program.

Responsibilities

• Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes.
• Distributes meals and beverages.
• Takes vital signs and collects lab specimens.
• Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures.
• Changes dressings and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Obtains wound and throat cultures.
• Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up.
• Assists with ambulating patients with assistive devices as crutches and with transfer/transport procedures.
• Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights.
• Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.
• Performs other department specific duties as assigned.
