About The Position

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Sidney Kimmel Medical College are seeking a board-certified/eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Assistant Professor level with a strong interest in aortic surgery and coronary disease. Additional experience with complex cardiac cases, heart failure, or cardiogenic shock is a plus. The position is primarily based at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, with opportunities to support cardiac surgery programs across the health system. Job Description Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University is seeking an Adult Cardiac Surgeon to join our expanding academic cardiac surgery program at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This position offers the opportunity to join a high-volume, quality-driven practice that provides the full spectrum of adult cardiothoracic surgery, including: Advanced valve repair and replacement (including Ross procedure) Robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery Complex coronary revascularization (on-pump and off-pump) Aortic surgery and transcatheter valve repair/replacement (TAVR) Heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support (LVAD, destination therapy) Clinical Environment The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery provides services at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Abington Hospital , with an active transplant and mechanical support program. Outpatient practice is centered at the Jefferson Heart Institute , home to comprehensive cardiology services including risk reduction, advanced heart failure, transplant, and structural heart programs.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency.
  • Board certified or board eligible in thoracic/cardiac surgery.
  • Eligible for Pennsylvania medical licensure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, and collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship training in advanced cardiac surgery procedures preferred.
  • Additional experience with complex cardiac cases, heart failure, or cardiogenic shock is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive surgical care for patients with valvular, coronary, and aortic disease.
  • Perform advanced and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of cardiology, critical care, and heart failure specialists.
  • Teach and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Contribute to research, quality initiatives, and academic activities.
