About The Position

The Cardiology Veterinary Technician provides advanced patient care and coordination for companion animals with acute and chronic cardiac diseases within the Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center. This position supports clinicians, interns, residents, and students in delivering outstanding diagnostic, interventional, and surgical cardiology services in a fast-paced, team-oriented teaching environment. This role offers the opportunity to work with leading-edge technology and contribute directly to the education of future veterinarians. The ideal candidate is a compassionate professional who communicates clearly, adapts easily to changing priorities, and collaborates effectively with varied teams and clients to ensure the highest standard of patient care. This position also requires lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis with or without accommodation

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Licensed/Registered/Certified by any state
  • Graduation from an AVMA fully accredited two- or four-year Veterinary Technician program
  • Valid NC Driver's License required

  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic and monitoring equipment, including echocardiography, IV pumps, and anesthesia machines.
  • Strong client service and communication skills with a commitment to teamwork and teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor veterinary students and support a learning environment.
  • Experience using electronic medical records and hospital information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and support cardiology diagnostic and interventional procedures, including echocardiography, blood pressure assessment, anesthesia monitoring, and catheter-based treatments.
  • Provide direct patient care, including TPR, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication administration, sedation support, and post-procedure recovery.
  • Prepare patients and maintain aseptic surgical environments; assist during procedures while ensuring compliance with hospital safety and infection control standards.
  • Coordinate patient visits, communications, and scheduling using hospital information systems; provide updates to clients and referring veterinarians.
  • Mentor and assist with the instruction of fourth-year veterinary students, interns, and new staff in proper patient care techniques and service protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
