Department Heart Station Job Summary Under general supervision, performs patient arrhythmia monitor enrollment, application, scanning, and reporting. Administers exercise, cardiopulmonary, and pharmacological stress tests under direct supervision. Obtains patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedures. Enters demographics, medications and billing data into the computer. Inserts intravenous lines in patients for testing utilizing pharmacological agents. Performs emergency care on patients as needed. Sets up and ensures proper functioning of testing and monitoring equipment. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Performs resting 12-lead electrocardiograms. Essential Functions : Stress testing: monitors patients’ cardiac rhythm while undergoing Stress Testing. Responsible for recognizing and reporting irregularities noted in patients' cardiac rhythms. (40%) Cardiac monitor application, scanning, reporting: monitors the heart's performance. Collects information pertinent to the interpretation of the test. (10%) Places peripheral intravenous line. (10%) Performs 12-lead electrocardiograms. (10%) Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (10%) Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient’s care. (10%) Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient’s status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided. (10%)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 months experience with direct patient care in any setting required, -OR- Minimum 3 months experience with indirect patient care in a hospital setting required, - OR - Minimum 3 months experience in a telemetry setting or any related experience regarding ECG interpretation required.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • Proficient interpretation of electrocardiogram rhythms (or within 90 days of hire).
  • Ability to act appropriately in critical situations.
  • Ability to adjust the plan of care to changing patient situation.
  • Ability to provide care to patients of varying ages and age-related needs
