About The Position

Cardiology/Radiology Specialist I DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Cardiology/Radiology Specialist educates patients and staff appropriately in reference to radiology issues among other assigned tasks. SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Effectively identifies and solves problems in reference to radiology equipment, patient care or radiation safety. Consistently communicates abnormal variances to Charge nurse, Circulating RN or Nurse Manager. Competent in sterile technique for all cath lab procedures Demonstrates the following best practices in a consistent and positive manner: Huddles, procedure reporting, Service Excellence principles, and use of sterile technique. Follows evidence-based policies and procedures to guide radiology practice. Consistently produces quality radiographs. Possesses competency in use of technology and computers. Demonstrates competency in the use of archive unit, image management, study measurements and quality control. Performs assessment of patient in regards to positioning to obtain quality study. Consistently participates in the multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Competently performs/assists with all cath lab procedures performed. Demonstrates competency in operation of all cath lab equipment. Interprets and implements physician orders in reference to positioning and x ray views. Competently performs unit specific procedures in the x ray and scrub positions. Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan. Has knowledge of and utilizes unit specific equipment appropriately. Follows established hospital/department safety policies. Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and individuals bring to interactions. Follows hospital/department infection control policies. Adheres to hospital/department radiation safety policies including annual Radiation Safety inservice. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE Graduate of School of Radiology Technology required Current Louisiana Radiology license and ARRT registered required BLS-CPR certified required ACLS certified required Physical Demands/Work Environment Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting. The work environment may be physically confining. Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities. Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds. Ability to do shift work as required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of School of Radiology Technology required
  • Current Louisiana Radiology license and ARRT registered required
  • BLS-CPR certified required
  • ACLS certified required
