Requirements

• CCT (Certified Cardiographic Technician) certification required within 18 months of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) training required within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
• Mandatory Reporter training required within 90 days of hire and must be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patient for testing procedures and explains procedures to patients.
• Calibrates machine and loads graph paper, if appropriate.
• Keeps accurate progress notes and assists the physician during testing procedures.
• Takes blood pressure and monitors cardiac activity for arrhythmias or EKG changes.
• Relays information to the physician and delivers tests for interpretation.
• Reports abnormal results immediately, following department protocol.
• Enrolls patients in Cardiac Event Monitor Service and provides follow-up as needed.
• Gathers information for monthly pacemaker transmissions and records on flowsheet.
• Monitors EKGs and maintains records, files, and tracing information.
• Maintains equipment and restocks supplies in assigned work area.
• Keeps unit clean and orderly, ensuring equipment is in good working condition.
• Answers telephone and screens calls appropriately.
• Recognizes emergency situations and initiates life support measures as necessary.
• Enhances professional growth through educational programs, conferences, and workshops.
• Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and performs related work as required.
