About The Position

The Cardio Vascular Technician will perform scrub assistant duties in invasive cardiac procedures under the direct supervision of the physician. Specific responsibilities include preparing patients for cardiac cath procedures, cardiac monitoring and scrubbing. Additionally, the Cardio Vascular Technician will prepare the table for procedures, maintaining sterility at all times.

Requirements

  • Must have graduated from a Radiologic Technologist (RT) program or RCIS Program
  • Must hold a current New Jersey state Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) license, or RCIS certification

  • Previous relevant experience in cardiac catheterization lab or in invasive procedure

Responsibilities

  • Performs scrub assistant duties in invasive cardiac procedures under the direct supervision of the physician, for which appropriate progressive training and education has been received
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of a clean, safe, and designated sterile environment
  • Practices in accordance with the policy and procedures of the hospital, cath lab, and nursing departments and promotes adherence of same among co-workers
  • Uses safety precautions in transporting patients as need, placing patient on the table, insuring radiation safety for both the patient and the staff throughout the procedure
  • Assists in maintaining the medical stability of the patient throughout their stay in the department by monitoring vital signs and reporting any deviation from normal to the RN or MD
  • Prepares patients for cardiac cath by: - Clipping the site, Checks temperature, Maintains patient's privacy and dignity at all times, Applies EKG leads
  • Prepares table for procedures, maintaining sterility at all times
  • Assesses par levels of supplies and expiration date in cardiac cath lab and notifies inventory technician and/or director as needed
  • Operation/troubleshooting of contrast Injectors
  • Logging of Daily Quality Control of Avox
  • Retrieve patient information from folder - Patient's name, medical records number, date of birth, vital signs, height & weight
  • Booting up and down the artis and sensis equipment
  • Inserts patient information for acquisition in sensis and optimed systems
  • Print reports or burn CD if needed
  • Assist with patient transport
  • Restocks equipment as needed
  • Does not use unapproved abbreviations, accurately documents arrival time for STEMI emergencies
  • Takes steps to reduce chance of infection, maintains sterile field
  • Refers any issues during off-hour emergencies to head tech or director either the next working day or live if the situation warrants
  • Assist nurse during emergencies as needed with supplies, CPR etc.
  • Be able to assist MD with cath report
