About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Otterbein Cardio Strength Instructor is responsible for serving members of the Otterbein Life Enrichment Center’s Cardio Strength Center with the goal of improving functional fitness and social connections. The instructor creates and supports a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Role requires prior experience working with senior populations and sound knowledge of fitness for the senior age group.
  • Must have basic computer skills and previous customer service and/or health & wellness experience.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to interpret, carry out and implement into classes/programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.
  • Work as an integrated member of a staff team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adults, seniors and special populations.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance.
  • Role may require carrying, kneeling, pushing, sitting, climbing, lifting, running, stooping, crouching, pulling, standing and walking.
  • Must have the physical ability to demonstrate technique to participants in the program and provide proper application of lifesaving techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Provides knowledge and expertise in delivering appropriate fitness guidance and support for community members.
  • Monitors exercise activities to make sure they are performed correctly and provides encouragement, motivation and improvement feedback.
  • Asks and answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  • Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
  • Completes daily cleaning assignments and shares general information regarding LEC offerings to members.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
