About The Position

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Cardiac & Vascular Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and related conditions. The Sonographer operates ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with professional standards, including those established by the American College of Radiology (ACR), applicable credentialing organizations, and facility policies and procedures. This position reports to the Practice Manager and works collaboratively with physicians and members of the healthcare team. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports to the Supervising Physician and Practice Manager and works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team SUPERVISION EXERCISED: As delegated by manager ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including cardiac and/or vascular studies, as ordered by a physician. Ensure examination orders are complete and contain appropriate clinical indications. Review patient history and supporting clinical documentation prior to examination. Prepare and position patients safely and appropriately for procedures. Acquire and document diagnostic-quality images in accordance with established protocols. Recognize significant abnormalities and promptly communicate urgent findings to the interpreting physician. Prepare preliminary technical worksheets or structured data for physician interpretation. Accurately document procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems. PATIENT CARE & COMPLIANCE: Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to adolescent and adult populations. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies. Adhere to infection prevention and control standards, including proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment and exam rooms. Maintain safe and proper operation of ultrasound equipment and report equipment concerns promptly. OPERATIONAL & DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT: Perform required daily quality assurance and equipment checks. Maintain organized work areas and appropriate supply levels. Assist with orientation and training of new staff as assigned. Collaborate effectively with physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary staff. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities. Perform additional duties assigned to support operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or equivalent education and training required.
  • Minimum one year of ultrasound experience preferred.
  • ARDMS credential required or registry eligible.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound protocols, anatomy, and pathology.
  • Ability to obtain diagnostic-quality examinations consistent with physician expectations.
  • Proficiency in EMR and PACS systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a clinical environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology, workflow, and departmental needs.
  • Repetitive upper extremity movements.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and patient positioning.
  • Ability to lift and assist patients as needed.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Ability to use appropriate body mechanics and ergonomic techniques.

  • Cardiac and/or vascular ultrasound experience preferred but not required.
