About The Position

The position is responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac or vascular ultrasound, providing cardiologists with accurate measurements and images of cardiac structures for diagnosis. The role includes providing immediate feedback with preliminary reports of critical results to nurses and physicians, which is essential for life-saving treatment interventions. The individual will assist physicians with studies and complex procedures, including those in the OR, Hybrid lab, Cath lab, and CAD, such as TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program strongly preferred.
  • Licensure as either a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from ARDMS, or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from CCI.
  • 0 - 6 months related experience.
  • Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates correct technique, efficiency, and judgment in advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular procedures.
  • Performs adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures including TEE and stress echo.
  • Reviews pertinent patient data and reports before procedures.
  • Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and obtain optimal diagnostic recordings.
  • Exercises appropriate judgment in notifying the reading physician of abnormal results.
  • Assists the physician with studies and aids in complex procedures to decrease procedural risks.
  • Maintains proper documentation of data according to lab, departmental, and hospital policy.
  • Documents all procedures accurately in departmental tracking process.
  • Processes charging and other necessary data efficiently and accurately.
  • Collaborates in the maintenance of departmental efficiency and anticipates needs in equipment and supplies.
  • Supports unit/hospital goals through QA and educational activities.
  • Maintains current competency and registry in the specialty practices.
  • Participates in departmental QA process and National Accreditation process.
  • Complies with departmental and hospital policies and maintains a clean environment.
  • Practices infection control and promotes safety for patients, visitors, and personnel.
