About The Position

Atrium Health is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute's Cardiothoracic Surgery program in Charlotte, NC. This full-time position will focus on OR only surgical responsibilities, where the APP will work independently in the inpatient hospital and operating room settings, collaborating with a supervising physician and a multidisciplinary team. The role involves first assisting in a variety of cardiothoracic surgeries, particularly in thoracic surgery, and performing endoscopic vein and arterial harvesting. The APP will coordinate and provide comprehensive quality patient care, conduct assessments, and participate in the education and training of APP students and new hires. The position requires weekend, holiday, and call duties on a rotating schedule.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North and South Carolina.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license.
  • BLS and ACLS for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice, license to practice as a Registered Nurse, and certification from a nationally recognized certifying body.
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program, Master's Degree preferred, and certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
  • Cardiothoracic or vascular surgery experience.
  • Ability to perform thorough history and physical assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first assistance in a wide range of cardiothoracic surgeries.
  • Demonstrate independent competency in endoscopic vein and arterial harvesting.
  • Coordinate and provide comprehensive quality patient care in collaboration with a supervising physician.
  • Perform pre-, peri-, and postoperative procedures.
  • Obtain detailed history and physicals on consultations and admissions.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Participate in the education and training of APP students and new hires.
  • Attend required meetings and development sessions.
  • Work independently with strong decision-making skills.
