The Cardiac Sonographer performs advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures such as M-mode, 2-D, Doppler and Color Flow Doppler utilizing a variety of equipment and techniques. This role involves making necessary measurements for interpretation to obtain accurate, high-quality results, including muscle wall thickness, chamber diameters and volumes, valve areas, and blood flow velocity and direction. The sonographer may assist physicians in the Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs by performing echocardiograph studies to aid in complex procedures and decrease risk factors. They are responsible for identifying and defining cardiac abnormalities, extending the scope of examinations appropriately, and correlating invasive and noninvasive cardiac diagnostic test results with cardiac anatomy and function.
