POSITION SUMMARY This position, acting as a specialized ultrasound technologist, aids in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions in patients, playing a central role in detecting issues related to the heart, including heart malfunctions and in supporting the physicians as they develop diagnosis and treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Requires completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular program.
  • Requires national certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Cardiac Sonographer.
  • Uncertified new hires who are Registry eligible must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with one to two years of clinical experience.
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.

  • Adult Echo experience preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders.
  • Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Oversees Heart Clinic echocardiographic services, ensuring quality of performance.
  • Accountable for the oversight and application of scanning protocols and quality measures, following the guidelines of ASE or IAC.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
  • Performs high quality images and presents them for timely interpretation, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Performs exams and imaging duties by providing preliminary clinical findings to the supervising physicians.
  • Also provides valuable and timely preliminary findings to the Cardiologists or Cardiac surgeons.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established policies.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors.
  • Adheres to safety policies.
  • Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice.
  • This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow in the department.
  • Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • Performs high level disinfecting in accordance with manufacturers and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Functions as the clinical and technical expert in Cardiac Sonographic Imaging for the Cardiology or Cardiovascular department.
  • May act as a clinical resource to staff and students, as well as train new staff and students in sonographic techniques, with focus on the echocardiographic laboratory.
  • May provide echocardiographic related education to Banner Health staff and cardiac sonography students.
  • May assess student competency and provide feedback to department leadership.
  • Ensures echocardiography functions are within compliance of professional scope of practice, accreditation and regulatory standards, Joint Commission and Title 22.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
