Summary Job Description: Status: PRN Shift: 1st Job Summary: Performs tests at BH Louisville with technical accuracy. These include, Transthoracic, Stress Echocardiography testing and Transesophageal echocardiograms. Familiar with life-threatening arrhythmias. Patient population served includes any patient admitted from newborn to geriatrics. Must maintain Basic Life Support/CPR certification. Must be available to work 1 weekend a month. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time. 1. Performs echocardiograms (TTE and TEE) and cardiac doppler with technical accuracy, demonstrates a thorough understanding of the ultrasound equipment and cardiac anatomy. 2. Maintain a professional environment through a clean and orderly department, adherence to dress code, and personal actions. 3. Stress echo required technical efficiency and will assist the RN by close monitoring of the patient according to the protocol desired by the physician. 4. Recognizes life-threatening arrhythmia’s and reports them to the attending nurse or physician. 5. Schedules patient’s appointments as needed such as add-on or TEE. Prioritizes the Echocardiograms to meet the patient needs and to recognize urgency of the exam results. 6. Maintains Echo machine in the proper working order by routine cleaning of filters, keyboards and general cleaning. 7. Participates in QA activities and ICAEL accreditation. 8. Annual completion of clinical competency validation. Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required: 1. Must be registered in Adult Echocardiography or a candidate for registry in Adult Echocardiography. a. Candidates must be registered within 3 months. b. Registration may be through Cardiovascular Credentialing International as Registered Cardiac Sonographer or through The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer. 2. Experience in all cardiology procedures preferred. 3. BCLS certification required within three months of hire.
