Under the supervision and direction of the physician, the Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing, documenting and communicating the results of the diagnostic 2D and M-Mode echocardiographic procedures as well as stress echocardiograms. The Cardiac Sonographer is also responsible for the hook up, disconnect and downloading of the holter monitors.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program - New grads welcome
  • Current BLS certification
  • Licensure - Certification from ARDMS or CCI is required within six months of date of hire required. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) via the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) of Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree and successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP approved program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred.
  • Experience - One year of experience in a certified echocardiography laboratory preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and operates echo and TEE equipment, including performing 2D and M-Mode echocardiograms, Doppler color flow, treadmill tests, and TEE.
  • Calculates and submits accurate flow velocities, valve areas, and pressure gradients, ensuring the quality of exams and preliminary reports for physician review.
  • Communicates critical results to physicians urgently and maintains accurate records for ICAEL re-certification, including peer review and quality assurance.
  • Ensures cleanliness and proper stocking of echo and accurately enters data into the medical record.
  • Coordinates with management and PSR to manage workload effectively, while observing universal precautions and adhering to OSHA regulations and infection control policies.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, responds to requests and emails promptly, and provides patient education.
  • Participates in clinical educational programs to enhance professional competence and maintain certification.
