About The Position

The Cardiac Sonographer competently performs complete echocardiographic studies integrating all cardiac echo imaging modalities and procedures necessary to obtain all pertinent patient data. This role involves documenting patient data and echo exam information completely and accurately utilizing the Echo Information Management System and other necessary computer applications. The Cardiac Sonographer functions independently while using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to obtain a comprehensive echocardiogram. Collaboration with Lead Cardiac Sonographers, Advanced Cardiac Sonographers, Echocardiographers, Physicians, and other team members is essential to assist in the interpretation of echocardiographic findings. Additionally, the Cardiac Sonographer assists in the orientation, training, and education of all levels of trainees, students, and visitors assigned to Cardiovascular Services. Expectations extend to include stress lab and stress echo lab procedures, outreach, on-call practices, weekends, evenings, and holiday coverage as needed. The Cardiac Sonographer is available for 24-hour call within a 30-minute response time required. This position requires demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality care appropriately to the age of the patient, including neonate to geriatric patient populations. Flexibility in learning all equipment, imaging specialties, and echocardiography procedures is a must. Understanding sterile procedures and isolation precaution techniques is essential, as well as exercising proper precautions to avoid potential exposures to radiation, infectious hazards, and sharp instruments. The Cardiac Sonographer is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate competencies list. Physical demands include tolerating frequent walking, standing, pushing, and pulling, reaching above shoulder level, and enduring occasional twisting and turning. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to hear at an ordinary conversation level and possess good visual acuity.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited sonography program.
  • One year of cardiac experience preferred and be registry eligible.
  • Minimum of one year experience in adult and pediatric cardiac sonography.
  • Experience with transesophageal and stress echo preferred.
  • Knowledge of cardiac pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, and patient care procedures.
  • Experience with outreach services helpful.
  • Proven ability to work with co-workers, physicians, and all levels of healthcare professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification or registry eligible for RDCS or RCS.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Valid Minnesota and/or Wisconsin driver's license.
