About The Position

The Echocardiography Tech student is responsible for preparing the diagnostic room, gathering patient and case specific supplies and equipment per the Registered Echo tech instructions. They will operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment to provide basic imaging studies under the direction of the Registered Echo tech according to established policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient and communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s level of understanding. Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • High School/GED
  • Cardiovascular technology, Must be enrolled at the senior level in an accredited school of Echocardiography
  • None work experience

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient charts for medical history/clinical information pertinent to the test being performed.
  • Interviews patients to obtain any additional necessary information.
  • Explains test procedures to patients to alleviate apprehension, instructs them in relation techniques in order to obtain quality results.
  • Performs testing in department and bedside in patient rooms or other areas.
  • Performs all related functions for testing.
  • Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment according to department procedures to acquire non-invasive evaluations of cardiac function.
  • Measures dimension and function for quantitative evaluation of the cardiac structures through both manual use of calipers and use of computers.
  • Views screen to detect pathologies and abnormal functioning; determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and interpretation by physician.
  • Compiles preliminary test information for interpretation by physician.
  • Ensures all calculations are correct and that necessary patient information is included.
  • Applies independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic sonography procedures.
  • Applies independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.
  • Review examination images, synthesize examination results, and prepare the preliminary findings.
  • Maintains departmental equipment in proper working function.
  • Disinfects equipment as each patient.
  • Holds self and others accountable for behaviors and promote service excellence.
