About The Position

A sonographer uses ultrasound high-frequency sound waves to take images of the body's internal organs and tissues to assist doctors with diagnosing and monitoring a variety of conditions and diseases. A sonographer is also known as a diagnostic medical sonographer or an ultrasound technician. The Cardiac Sonographer II reports to the Cardiac Sonographer Supervisor. Under general supervision, the Cardiac Sonographer II performs high quality echocardiograms for interpretation and diagnosis by a Cardiologist in a professional manner that is consistent with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role applies knowledge of clinical cardiology, acoustic imaging technology, and problem-solving skills to optimize the echocardiographic evaluation, tailoring and expanding the exam to ensure comprehensiveness and diagnostic accuracy and requires independent and efficient performance of Echo exams. This role organizes and prioritizes patient exams and contributes to unit teamwork. This role assists in the orientation and training of residents, students, and visitors assigned to the Echocardiography Laboratory.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience and certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a RDCS, or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
  • Associate of Arts/Science or bachelor’s degree / graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of echo work experience in performing M-mode, 2-D, 3-D, spectral and color Doppler required.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and adult congenital echo required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Graduation from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • 2-4 years Work Experience.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

  • Associate of Arts/Science or bachelor’s degree / graduation from a Cardiovascular / Ultrasound program or equivalent experience is preferred.
