The Cardiac Sonographer I, under the supervision of the Echocardiography Laboratory Technical Director, Medical Director, and the Cardiology Practice Manager performs prompt, courteous, and quality transthoracic, transesophageal, & stress echocardiography. Provides ancillary services in support of the Echocardiography Laboratory and maintaining accreditation status. Travels to regional sites and performs echocardiograms independently. Mentors fellows, students, and level I sonographers as requested. Participates in the echocardiography on call rotation. Must attain credentials as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI) within 12 months of employment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Cardiac Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program, required
  • Minimum one year experience as a cardiac sonographer, preferred, including time spent during school
  • Registry eligible for adult Echocardiography by ARDMS, preferred
  • RCS Certification eligible from CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs prompt, courteous, and quality technical diagnostic studies and support services at an expert level.
  • Performs routine, urgent and emergent transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography diagnostics in accordance with established protocols as measured by physician feedback and managerial observation.
  • Routinely provides related services as requested as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Provides echocardiography services at regional health center sites as needed as measured by managerial observation.
  • Provides backup coverage in other non-invasive diagnostic areas of the department as assigned as measured by managerial review.
  • Provides confidentiality for all patients as measured by co-worker and patient feedback and managerial observation.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Participates in the on-call schedule for echocardiography and responds within 30 minutes when called in as measured by physician feedback and managerial observation.
  • Collaborates with team members to provide excellent patient service and serves as a mentor for fellows, students and level I sonographers as requested.
  • Works closely with schedulers to assure timely patient access to echocardiography services and responses to physician referrals as measured by patient and co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, 100% of the time, as measured by no significant, substantiated patient or peer complaints received by the supervisor.
  • Presents a positive image of Bassett Healthcare and the BHCI through professional appearance and behavior as measured by patient and co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Works collaboratively with Cardiology and all hospital departments as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation.
  • Participates in performance and quality improvement activities of the department, to include providing peer feedback, as measured by managerial observation.
  • Maintains echocardiography equipment in good condition, reporting all malfunctions as measured by managerial observation.
  • Uses supplies and materials prudently to maximize cost effectiveness of procedures.
  • Completes job specific continuing education within the appraisal period.
  • Maintains competence by attending relevant seminars and training opportunities and providing supervisor with appropriate records, without being requested to do so, as measured by managerial observation.
  • Performs other duties as requested by supervisor or manager
