The Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist is a health care professional who uses high-technology equipment at the direction of a qualified physician to assist with invasive procedures on patients leading to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac, neurological, and peripheral vascular disease. The position involves preparing patients and assembling and operating hemodynamic equipment during interventional cardiac procedures for diagnosis of heart disease. The technologist assists the physician in performing invasive procedures and performs related radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging such as administering contrast to demonstrate catheter location and position, and documents results. The role also includes monitoring and alerting the team of life-threatening changes in patient status and responding with assistance during emergency procedures.
