May provide education one to one or in a group. Promotion and marketing of cardiac rehab programs. Serves as a liaison between in-patient and out-patient programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Certification in related specialty within two years of assuming position or within 6 months of becoming eligible for the exam (whichever comes first)
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
  • Registered Nurse
  • Knowledge of ECG monitoring and cardiac pharmacology
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • 3-4 years’ experience Clinical Nursing in acute or related specialty field
  • 2-3 years’ experience orienting/precepting newly hired nurses, guest lecturing, and providing unit in-services

Responsibilities

  • Takes responsibility through involvement in continuing ed of related med and nursing practices, participation in outside professional and community organization, staying current in cardiac rehab trends.
  • Identifies opportunities for unit improvement and actively participates in the change process.
  • Active member of a hospital committee-SLC, Magnet, Clinical ladder.
  • Acts as a resource for new nurses or team members.
  • Stays up to date with AME, BLS, ACLS and LEARN assignments.
  • Is a member of a professional organization
  • Wisely uses time management skills and is able to prioritize patient needs.
  • Proficiently uses critical thinking and problem solving measures.
  • Collaborates with the patient, family and the interdisciplinary team to individualize the plan of care.
  • Manages and easily adapts to an ever-changing environment.
  • Provides in-patient education to cardiac patients with accompanying documentation.
  • Identifies possible educational gaps, seeks resolution.
  • Seeks optimal patient education, and updates education with the newest information most current materials available.
  • Creates new ideas to enhance education program.
  • Coordinates education with PSS and the floor nurses.
  • Meets with family and ensures post hospitalization care.
  • Develops and maintains standardized process for planning and implementing patient education through an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Is a resource for cardiac staff RNs and others.
