About The Position

The Cardiac Monitor Technician/Patient Care Tech position at Baystate Franklin in Greenfield, MA is a dual role that requires functioning as either a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or a Monitor Technician based on unit needs. The role involves direct patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to meet patient needs. When assigned to the Monitor Tech role, the technician will focus solely on monitoring responsibilities, which include initiating and discontinuing monitor equipment, conducting high-level surveillance of cardiac monitors, analyzing rhythms, and documenting changes in the patient's medical record. The position requires adherence to the organization's principles of communication, respect, integrity, trust, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Completion of Baystate Health's dysrhythmia course before completion of orientation.
  • Maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers certification.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates and discontinues monitor equipment on admission, discharge, and transfer; assigns monitor to the patient and enters patient information into telemetry system.
  • Maintains log of the location of all monitors each shift and cleans monitors when discontinued.
  • Conducts high-level surveillance of cardiac monitors, monitors telemetry patient's rhythms, individualizes patient alarms, and ensures all alarms are active.
  • Analyzes rhythms and reports changes immediately to the RN; prints patient strips, documents rhythm on the printout, and places strip in patient's chart.
  • Maintains patient safety as the number one priority; responds promptly to patient call bells and fall alarms.
  • Monitors basic physiological parameters, takes and records routine vital signs, obtains and documents weights, and reports significant deviations in vital signs.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic and collaborative relationships with healthcare team members; communicates effectively with team and patients.
  • Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures and responds effectively in emergencies.
  • Participates in unit and educational progress to develop/refine skills.
  • Attends unit staff meetings as required and adheres to established work expectations.
