About The Position

The Cardio-Pulmonary Technician Level I (lower level patient acuity) position is responsible for performing remote surveillance for multiple locations, specific to cardio-pulmonary rhythms via a central monitoring station, and for recognizing, recording and reporting potentially dangerous rhythm changes and arrhythmias following established standards and procedures per applicable regulatory requirements. Work is primarily performed in a centralized monitoring unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Each Technician can potentially watch up to 60 patients due to the highly advanced IT technology capabilities.The incumbent will accurately recognize cardiac rhythms and follow command center policy. Accurately take appropriate action and follow established protocols in notifying local RN staff of changes in cardiac rhythm and arrhythmias. The incumbent is expected to follow proper communication channels in handling routine and emergency situations; follow established protocols/procedures; have awareness of and strive to improve patient outcomes and department metrics.

Requirements

  • Three months of post-secondary education/training in regard to EKG technology as a monitor tech. and Minimum 2 years of recent (within past year) professional work experience of any type., upon hire or
  • Successful completion of a Basic EKG test is required within 90 days of hire.
  • None, upon hire

  • Graduation from the following accredited program, including EKG Interpretation Monitor Technician, upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Monitors patient’s cardiac rhythms and/or oxygen saturation using appropriate cardio-pulmonary monitoring equipment
  • Obtains a baseline ECG strip on all monitored patients according to department guidelines
  • Records and posts cardiac strips following established procedures.
  • Updates and verifies patient data in the information system; maintains unit/department-specific records as assigned.
  • Recognizes rhythms with the potential to alter the patient’s physiology and obtains a documentary ECG strip
  • Immediately reports all arrhythmias to the RN responsible for the patient following established protocols.
