About The Position

The Cardiac Electrophysiology Technologist plays a crucial role in the electrophysiology lab, assisting in various procedures related to cardiac health. This position involves preparing the lab for procedures, operating and maintaining specialized equipment, and ensuring a sterile environment while adhering to safety protocols. The technologist collaborates with healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care and participates in training new staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree OR Degree from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology with Radiologic Technologist (RT) Certification OR Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) Certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification.
  • Obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the EP Lab for procedures, including setting up the sterile procedure table and ensuring all necessary supplies and apparel are available.
  • Assists in clean up and turnover of room in preparation for following procedure.
  • Assists preparing patient for electrophysiology procedures, including prepping access site(s) and properly draping patient in the fashion that corresponds to the procedure, while maintaining standards of sterility.
  • Sets up, operates, troubleshoots, and maintains Electrophysiology equipment, ensuring their proper functioning during procedures.
  • Documents procedure charges, supply charges, fluoroscopy time and radiation dose, and contrast dosage accurately.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to maintain a sterile environment within the EP lab, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Ensures proper radiation safety protocols are followed, including use of lead aprons and shielding to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Participates in quality assurance initiatives to improve the efficiency and safety of EP procedures.
  • Assists in managing supplies and equipment within the EP lab, ensuring all necessary items are readily available.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new staff members and collaborates effectively with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Prepares to respond to emergencies and provide immediate assistance during complications or adverse events.
