The Cardiac Device Tech II position involves working closely with physicians and other staff to perform checks on pacemakers, defibrillators, and other implanted devices, as well as monitoring remote device checks. The role requires managing core devices and entails traveling between different locations. The position emphasizes patient education, clinical support, and maintaining high standards of care.

  • Serve as primary resource for clinical support in troubleshooting, programming, and patient follow-up for cardiac devices.
  • Participate in the training and onboarding of new cardiac device specialists.
  • Assist with directing daily workflow and participate in quality and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain competency in the field through continuing education and approved resources.
  • Educate patients regarding device function and clinic follow-up procedures.
  • Perform remote pacemaker/AICD checks every 1-4 months using approved vendor websites.
  • Explain in-office testing and phone check procedures to patients with verbal consent.
  • Perform in-office pacemaker/AICD checks every 3-6 months, checking battery life, lead impedance, and device settings.
  • Change or adjust pacemaker/AICD settings as needed to enhance device performance.
  • Edit and forward final test results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.
  • Forward abnormal findings directly to the physician or nurse per department guidelines.
  • Key information into computer or programmer to maintain patient and office records, and upload reports into patient charts.
  • Work with vendors and Clinical Engineering to schedule equipment downtime for maintenance and repairs.
  • Utilize knowledge of cardiac device software, Microsoft Office, and internet applications.
  • Exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintain a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
  • Deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and age-specific needs.
  • Perform proper patient identification and acquire clinical history accurately.
  • Administer medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
  • Apply appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Adhere to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Utilize all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensure safety of all customers and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Assist in transporting patients and clerical duties such as printing reports and scheduling patients.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment, ensuring well-stocked and organized work areas.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work at any Orlando Health facility and assist with other departmental duties as needed.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in managing and performing core devices such as Pacemakers, ICDs, and Implantable Loop Recorders.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; three years of direct experience may substitute for the degree and certification.
  • Must obtain one of the following certifications within six months of hire: PrepMD certificate, Arrhythmia Technologies Institute certificate, IBHRE Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS), Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS), or Cardiac Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS).
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification.
