About The Position

The Level 2 Cardiac Device Technician must possess an advanced and comprehensive knowledge of cardiac device therapy. Under the direction of a Nurse Manager, RN, or Medical Director they will provide thorough, proficient interrogation and assist in the management of all patients with CIED (Cardiac Implantable Electrical Device) in person, remotely, and/or via phone transmission. These include pacemakers, ICD's, ILR's and cardiac resynchronization devices. Demonstrates the willingness and flexibility to adapt to the needs of the clinic and is a valuable resource of the team. Responsible for initial device analysis, preliminary report generation, and alerting physician or non-physician practitioner to urgent issues requiring further attention. Will possess advanced knowledge base to troubleshoot difficult and complex CIED lead and device issues. The outpatient setting requires the Device Technologist with a patient centric environment with a team approach to delivery of care.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience of Cardiovascular/Cardiology Technician required. May include multiple cardiac settings- EP lab, Cardiac Cath Lab.
  • Minimum of two years' experience analyzing and reprogramming cardiac pacemakers, ICD's, ILR's and CRT devices of all manufacturers (Biotronik, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and Abbott/St. Jude) required.
  • Current experience reviewing and managing remote device transmissions is strongly preferred.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Device Remote Monitoring Specialist (CDRMS) from International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) required.
  • BLS Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Possess an advanced comprehensive knowledge of cardiac device therapy and the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Interrogate, interpret, and re-program cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.
  • Troubleshoot critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.
  • Collaborate with EP nurses, physicians, vendor representatives and non-physicians with direct patient care, device status and accurately document device analysis in EMR for review.
  • Educate patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
  • Ensure charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
  • Enrollment, scheduling, education, and maintenance of patients in various remote monitoring platforms (Carelink, Latitude, Merlin, and Biotronik).
  • Monitor patients following established protocols.
  • Schedule patients for device appointment follow up in EMR and remote website. Immediately contact 'no show' patients to ensure they are re-scheduled.
  • Consistently travel to regional or satellite offices for assigned device clinics.
  • Participate in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication. Promote a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships.
  • Serve as resource to physicians and other practice employees regarding device patients and services.
  • Keep equipment in good working condition and notify appropriate personnel of problem areas or safety issues.
  • Ensure programming rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Provides customer relations and resolves equipment service problems by ensuring that clinical capability is restored as quickly as possible.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Manage advanced abnormal technical device issues and tailor device function and programming to each individual clinical situation.
  • Independent MRI and peri-operative device management.
  • Provides training, responsible for preceptorship of new hires.
  • Assists with managing device regulatory issues including advisories, safety notifications, and recalls.
  • Expected to operate as a leader of the device tech team. Identifies opportunities to enhance workflows in collaboration with clinic leadership.
  • Coordinates/schedules service (self, vendor and, when appropriate, other technicians) via management of customer expectations.
  • Coordination with the Cardiac Device support Group if applicable.
  • Performs other related job functions as assigned.
