About The Position

The Cardiac Device Specialist collaborates with Electrophysiologists to provide quality patient care in a team environment. This role involves assessing the functioning of patients' cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), managing remote monitoring programs, and ensuring accurate clinical documentation. The specialist also mentors clinical staff and supports policy development for device management operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of recent cardiac device management experience in clinic and/or industry.
  • Successful completion of a cardiac device rhythm management course or equivalent experience; IBHRE certification preferred.
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
  • Extensive knowledge of cardiac implantable electronic devices, electrophysiology, and cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Skills in programming devices, critical thinking, record maintenance, and report writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting with direct patient interaction.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medications related to cardiovascular medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize activities and work within defined policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Coordinate the device clinic workflow(s), scheduling, documentation, and billing for all services.
  • Provide patient education for cardiac devices, including remote monitoring instruction.
  • Screen, communicate, and respond to patient needs in a timely manner.
  • Inform patients and their families of anticipated or completed procedures and appropriate follow-up.
  • Evaluate patients to ensure proper follow-up of all cardiac monitoring devices.
  • Interrogate devices and make appropriate program changes per protocol for optimal device function.
  • Review remote transmissions from device companies, download data, and document in electronic health records per protocol.
  • Track implanted devices on a recall list and intervene as appropriate.
  • Manage transition of care for established and referral patients to ensure continuity of care.
  • Review data from remote monitoring platforms and triage appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the Arrhythmia Clinic Nurse to coordinate care and triage patients' physical symptoms.
  • Maintain Arrhythmia Clinic device policies and procedures and ensure clinical competencies for staff.
  • Initiate and maintain personal professional development and participate in technology updates.
