About The Position

Help facilitate the child passenger safety program in the hospital and assist in the functions of the community Child Passenger Safety Inspection Station. Posting Specifics Pay Rate: Based on Experience Shift Details: On-call / PRN position to cover Child Passenger Safety (CPS) shifts for caregivers taking PTO or sick leave. CPS shifts are Monday – Saturday 8:45am – 4:00pm. Dept: Caregiver will be working at McKay Dee Hospital in the Community Education Services Dept. All shifts will be at McKay Dee Hospital. Additional Details: Hold a current Child Passenger Safety Technician certification OR attend the CPST certification class March 9th-12th OR May 4th-7th 2026 in West Valley City, Utah. Department will pay for the training and time to train. Available to cover shifts when requested. Clear communication skills. Willing to work outside, in intervals, educating parents how to install their car seat in their vehicle. Confidence in working with the digital car seat check form – training provided. Willing to round on patients and work closely with other units within the hospital.

Requirements

  • Certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician (or within 90 days of hire).
  • Certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician in Transporting Children with Special Healthcare Needs (flexibility will be offered due to the limited number of classes offered).
  • Excellent communication and phone skills; able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; experience successfully working with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evening / weekends).

Responsibilities

  • Communicate sensitively and effectively with new parents, nurses and other clinical staff while making daily car seat check appointments.
  • May make car seat check appointments before discharge and educate new parents in patient rooms.
  • Work toward car seat installation competency while actively increasing car seat knowledge and skills; participate as a team member of the hospital Child Passenger Safety Team; study and prepare to answer Child Passenger Safety phone calls accurately and return calls in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Child Passenger Safety Specialist for help when there is a knowledge or skills gap need that can’t be found in approved resource materials. With experience, tech will assist and provide support for less experienced techs. May perform virtual car seat checks.
  • Facilitate distribution and proper installation of child safety seats to patients and family members while in the hospital.
  • Teach child passenger safety topics at community events under the direction of CPST Specialist or manager, and perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with distribution of special needs child safety seats and/or car bed equipment and teach parents proper use of the equipment as directed.
  • Inspect, refurbish, and sanitize special seats and car beds when returned to the hospital. File paperwork and return equipment to inventory for future use.
