The Platforms and Services Sector (P&S), Combat Mission Systems (CMS) business area, Weapon Systems (WS) Product Line is seeking a Capture Manager – Submarine Lead. Serve as the Capture Leader and support longer-term Business Development efforts, responsible for long-term positioning and capture execution for top submarine and shipbuilding opportunities across the Weapon Systems portfolio. Support captures across multiple submarine platforms including the District of Columbia-class and Virginia-class submarines as well as developmental programs for future submarines: SSN(X) and SSGN replacement. Utilize domain experience in submarine programs to support captures across multiple areas of the submarine platform and weapons portfolio. The role will report directly to the Business Development Director, Weapon Systems. Identify, develop, and win new business with special emphasis on leading and capturing top priority pursuits. Lead multi-functional, high-performance teams to capture strategic business in a dynamic, matrixed environment, allocating resources and prioritizing effectively in limited timeframes. Work across and throughout leadership channels to ensure appropriate multi-functional engagement to achieve needed objectives/milestones. This position is a growth position in a growth-oriented area of the BAE Systems portfolio. As a member of the Business Development team, this individual will also “keep an eye on the horizon” and may periodically conduct business development activities to ensure long-term growth. This position can be based in Louisville KY (preferred), Minneapolis MN, Falls Church VA, or Groton CT. Remote work may be considered. There will be 25% of travel required. The team works a flexible 9/80 schedule.

Requirements

  • United States Citizen eligible for a Secret Clearance
  • Ability to travel 25%
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record in successful Capture, Business Development, or Program Management assignments within Defense and/or Shipbuilding Industry
  • Deep understanding of submarine industrial shipbuilding including current trends, competitor analysis, customer behavior, manufacturing technology developments, and future directions
  • Relationships inside Navy shipbuilding programs or within the submarine shipbuilder primes
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to identify and capture targeted opportunities
  • Proactive and results-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to create, identify, shape, and qualification new business opportunities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Director of Business Development as a member of the business development and capture team to develop and shape capture strategies, cultivate a growth mindset within the weapon systems organization, prioritize new business opportunities, and recommend program alignments with customers’ needs and requirements.
  • Lead and develop complex capture activities to include creating strategic vision and objectives to ensure successful capture and win.
  • Create a diverse high-performance team of professionals to include the core capture team business development, program engineering, and program management leaders supported by functional support in operations, finance, supply chain, contracts, and legal.
  • Grow, cultivate, and expand key stakeholder relationships in the submarine industrial base community to include shipbuilders, U.S. Navy entities including Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) program managers and engineers, Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) Undersea, and Direct Reporting Program Manager (DRPM) Submarines, critical supply chain representatives, industry partners and competitors, and stakeholders in Australia and the United Kingdom supporting the trilateral Australia-United Kingdom-United States (AUKUS) submarine programs.
  • Support congressional funding initiatives to expand the capability and capacity of BAE Systems within the submarine industrial base.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key industry and internal stakeholders, including current and potential customers, partners, and industry influencers.
  • Aggressively seek new business opportunities that are consistent with both the Business Area and Sector strategies by leveraging advanced technologies, customer relationships, market knowledge, and intercompany collaboration.
  • Support Maritime Industrial Base growth activities to include pursuit of Supplier Development Funds, relationship cultivation, new project initiation and follow-through to grow the overall capacity, capability, and efficiency within the industrial base.
  • Support the Weapon Systems Business Development team to grow and mature the orders pipeline within Weapons Systems Business Area through the creation, identification, and qualification of quality opportunities.
  • Maintain membership and participate in key submarine community organizations to include Naval Submarine League, National Defense Industrial Association, and Navy League.
  • Support BAE Systems involvement in the broader submarine community to include new construction ship commissionings, christenings, sponsorships, committees, and other organizations within the submarine industrial network.
  • Engage as a member of the Weapon Systems business development team to develop growth strategies by providing key insights into mission and customer requirements, competitor intelligence, and market trends.
  • Develop individual opportunity marketing plans and capture strategies, as well support campaign level marketing and strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with the Weapon Systems Director of Business Development and provide regular updates on strategy, progress, and challenges.
  • Serve as an active member of the Business Development team to foster collaboration and advance the BD function.
