About The Position

The Master is responsible for the safe operation of the tug and barge, overseeing crew activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining communication with management and regulatory agencies. This seasonal, full-time position requires leadership in safety and operational decision-making, particularly during cargo operations and vessel navigation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of directly related work experience may substitute for 1 year of education.
• USCG issued Master 100 Ton Near Coastal license with radar endorsement.
• TOAR/Master of Towing certification.
• Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
• Drug-free certification.

Nice To Haves

• Tankerman/PIC Endorsement (preferred).
• USCG issued Master 500 or 1600 Ton Oceans license with radar endorsement (preferred).
• Tow Wire or Line Haul Experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the safe operation of the tug and barge while underway and during cargo operations.
• Provide direction to crew, including setting schedules and assigning maintenance and operational tasks.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with management on vessel delivery schedules and maintain communication with the Vitus Marine Management team.
• Plan and execute maintenance, supervising contractors as necessary.
• Complete required paperwork, including vessel inspections and compliance reports.
• Assist with customer and supplier notifications and coordination.
• Ensure vessel orientation training for crews and represent the company to regulatory agencies.
• Plan and schedule crew changes in coordination with the Director of Marine Operations.
