Bering Marine is seeking a Captain – Master of Tow. As Captain, you will safely and efficiently operate towing vessels in support of barge towing, and marine transportation operations in and out of harbors, estuaries, straits, sounds and rivers. This role is responsible for vessel safety, crew leadership, regulatory compliance, and delivering reliable service in dynamic marine environments. The ideal candidate is a seasoned mariner with strong vessel‑handling skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to lead crews while operating in demanding conditions. Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience as a vessel captain
  • Z‑Drive experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • FCC Radio License
  • Current Coast Guard Physical Card
  • Towing Endorsement
  • USCG License- Captain 200 ton minimum, coastal.
  • Radar Endorsement
  • Merchant Marine Document

Responsibilities

  • Determining course and speed on basis of specialized knowledge of wind, weather, tides and current
  • Use your advanced skills to steer the vessel
  • You may push or pull barges to destination and to berths while avoiding hazards.
  • Operate Z‑Drive towing vessels
  • Supervise the vessel crew in the daily operation of the vessel
  • Oversee the loading and unloading of vessels
  • Track and report crew days and cargo hours
  • Keep logs of vessel operations as required by company or USCG
  • Ensures the safety of the crew and vessel by upholding company safety policies and leading safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and required safety reporting.
  • Maintain communications with office about sailing directions
  • Teamwork is a must
