The Opportunity This is a full time position that works out of our Waukegan, IL in our Aviation division. Abbott is seeking a Domestic Captain candidate for our Gulfstream G550/G650 aircraft. Preference will be given to candidate’s type rated and current on both the G550 and G650 aircraft. All candidates must live within a 2-hour drive to Waukegan Airport (KUGN) or be willing to relocate. This is not a commutable position. The Domestic Captain reports directly to the Director, Flight Operations. The Domestic Captain is responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft and has the final authority regarding the operation of the aircraft when acting as PIC. The Domestic Captain ensures that all flight and ground operations are conducted to the highest level of safety and complies with the Federal Aviation Regulations, applicable foreign regulations, and Abbott policies and procedures. The Domestic Captain position is considered a Senior Captain in training, and the promotion to Senior Captain will take place once international expertise and decision making has been proven to the Abbott team.

Requirements

  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot – Airplane Multiengine Land Certificate
  • PIC qualified and current on either the G550 or G650 aircraft, both preferred
  • Total Time – 3000 hours minimum, 5000 hours recommended
  • Pilot in Command – 1500 hours minimum, 2500 hours recommended
  • Multi Engine Land (MEL) – 1500 hours minimum
  • Jet Time – 500 hours, 500 hours jet PIC time recommended
  • Jet Time in Type – 100 hours left seat
  • Must hold and be able to maintain a valid FAA Class I Medical
  • FAA Violation free history
  • FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Hold a valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Possess a current U.S. passport
  • Ability to pass an FAA Pilot Records Database review by Abbott management
  • Ability to pass a reference screening and comprehensive background check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and submit to random drug/alcohol testing
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, etc
  • Ability to work around aircraft arrival and departures, including occasional high noise levels, vibrations, and exposure to fuel, fumes, and hydraulic fluids
  • Willingness to obtain vaccinations required for international travel
  • Ability to respond to short notice trips and be airborne within 3 hours of first call
  • Willingness to travel extensively worldwide with no restrictions

Nice To Haves

  • Previous international Captain experience preferred
  • Initial or Recurrent Part 142 training in type within the last 9 months is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains aircraft type specific FAA currency, and completes Part 142 training every 6 months
  • Ensures the assigned aircraft is airworthy, and the required documentation is onboard
  • Ensures the assigned aircraft discrepancies have been corrected and signed off prior to departure
  • Evaluates the weather and all applicable NOTAMs and determines the trip can be safely executed with all regulatory and company requirements met
  • Makes decisions to start, delay, or cancel flights, or deviate from planned routes, or destinations, when operating conditions dictate
  • Ensures all flight planning requirements are met
  • Ensures an aircraft preflight inspection is completed before each departure
  • Ensures a passenger safety briefing is completed before each departure
  • Completes all postflight duties, including notifying the company of deviations to any planned itinerary, schedule, or overnight location
  • Communicates all aircraft mechanical issues encountered to the appropriate department team members, and records the discrepancies in the designated location
  • Reports any known or suspected FAA violations or incidents promptly to the Director, Flight Operations and or the DVP Aviation
  • As soon as possible, report to the appropriate ATC facility any hazardous weather or flight condition encountered that may affect the safety of other aircraft
  • Assists in the training and development of departmental pilots on company policies, procedures, and flight operations
  • Assists in developing company policies and procedures that ensure that all operations are conducted with maximum safety as the goal
  • Is an active participant in the department Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Assumes any job-related duty delegated by the Director, Flight Operations or the DVP Aviation
  • Perform the duties of your assigned role while following the department’s Policy and Operations Manual (POM), department designated Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and Abbott designated policies.
  • Develop and maintain a complete knowledge, understanding and mastery of the aircraft systems
  • As a team member, always confer with other crew members to obtain as much information as possible to determine the best course of action
  • Assures the safety and security of the aircraft while away from home base
  • Ensures the safety and travel needs of the guests onboard the aircraft are met, with the desire to deliver service “above and beyond” their expectations
  • This is a non-supervisory position
