The Opportunity Are you an upcoming Engineering graduate? In addition to strong technical skills, are you a strategic thinker who builds strong team relationships to accomplish a project or goal? If so, the Global Capital Procurement team is seeking a Procurement Specialist to lead Abbott’s large capital investments within the Engineering Services category across all regions and divisions. As part of Global Capital Procurement, you will connect internal business needs with external supplier capabilities for high-value capital projects. In this role, you will serve as Abbott’s commercial expert for Engineering Services—owning sourcing strategy development and execution. This position plays a critical role in enabling new product launches, capacity expansions, and increased manufacturing throughput worldwide. You will collaborate closely with Global, Regional and Division Engineering acting as a key influencer across functions—helping Abbott build competitive advantage through strong sourcing strategies, rigorous supplier management, and continuous improvement. Alongside strategic sourcing, you will gain deeper expertise in negotiation, contract management, supplier relationships, and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Chemical preferred), Business, or related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in related fields.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship‑building and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and cross‑cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to translate strategy into actionable implementation plans.
  • Interest in developing deep knowledge of procurement processes and category management.
  • Understanding of technologies and products in the category.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to travel 20–40%, including internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to leverage supplier capabilities that best meet business needs.
  • Build, consolidate, and manage a high-performing supplier base aligned to current and future demand.
  • Build Engineering Services supply base playbook informing sourcing decisions across regions and divisions.
  • Recommend strategic adjustments based on market trends and supplier intelligence.
  • Lead cost‑reduction initiatives with cross‑functional partners.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts and agreements for assigned categories, including negotiating supplier rate cards.
  • Develop and execute risk‑management strategies with clear short‑ and long-term actions.
  • Identify and qualify alternate sources to ensure supply continuity and cost competitiveness.
  • Maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to drive enterprise success.
  • Independently manage supplier performance and continuous improvement activities.
  • Build sourcing strategies for new projects and create a cross‑network past/current/future project tracker.
  • Utilize tools such as SAP, Power BI, and similar systems.
