About The Position

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees. Tentative 2026 Internship Dates: Semester students: May 18th to July 24th Quarter students: June 15th to August 21st DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW The Chief of Staff Office supports the Capital Delivery Department by overseeing day-to-day operations, coordinating strategic planning efforts, and ensuring alignment across teams and leadership. The office works closely with executive leadership to support departmental priorities, manage cross-functional initiatives, and improve internal processes. In addition, the Chief of Staff Office plays a key role in communications, coordination, and special projects that advance organizational goals, support effective decision-making, and enhance collaboration across the department. The Capital Delivery Department supports major transit investments across the Puget Sound region, including Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. The Chief of Staff Office helps guide this work by overseeing operations, supporting strategic planning, and coordinating efforts across teams. The intern will have the opportunity to support the Chief of Staff Office and gain exposure to how executive coordination and planning contribute to the delivery of a large regional transit system.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in Communication, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other non-technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.
  • Strong organizational, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct basic research and summarize information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaborative tools.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or academic projects in communication, public administration, public policy, or planning.
  • Experience with research, writing, or presentations through coursework or internships.
  • Interest in public service, infrastructure, or transportation-related work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with drafting and formatting communications materials and presentations.
  • Conduct basic research and summarize findings for special projects.
  • Support planning and coordination for departmental initiatives and events.
  • Organize information, track action items, and support project documentation.
  • Provide general administrative and project support to the Chief of Staff office.
