About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Canning Technician is to operate can making equipment including the depalletizer, depalletizer/palletizer, can conveyor systems, lid feeder, slitter, welder, body former, uniformer, leak detector and can detection systems. Monitor the processes of the canning systems so that product quality is guaranteed and package integrity is assured. Participate as a Team Member of their assigned Business Unit. Direction is provided by the Shift Manager who coordinates the activities of Team members involved in can making of product for their assigned Business Unit. The Business Unit goals are consistent withpany goals and safety, quality, productivity and customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of production environment machinery operation equivalent to at least one (1) year experience preferred, including ability to run, set-up and change-over equipment.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot production related problems.
  • Demonstrated equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge ofputers and software applications, preferably with MS Office applications.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak andprehend English.
  • Ability to read andprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,mon fractions and decimals.
  • Ability topute rate, ratio and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to monsense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Must be able to climb into machinery for cleaning purposes.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of assigned equipment on the canning line. Maintain proper safety conditions of equipment and of Company assets.
  • Request product and materials to assure that the Business Unit goals and customer orders are achieved in a timely fashion.
  • Complete assigned paperwork daily. Document all required operational checks. Properly date and sign all required charts, graphs, and paperwork. These checks are considered legal documents and are required by the FDA. Accuratelyplete all documentation associated with production and change-overs. Maintain accurate records and logs as required.
  • Perform line observations, calculate downtime, perform safety checks, and quality checks, quality audits,plete maintenance work orders and take action and make rmendations based on these results. Monitor can dimensions, seam dimensions and integrity, can vacuum, and visual can inspection. Document all can and seam evaluations, and all quality assurance procedures dictated by established standards. Make necessary machine adjustments topensate for variations before deviations occur.
  • Perform proper sanitation, sterilization, equipment C.I.P. and proper cleanliness procedures of the workstation and canning system.
  • Using the Seam Scope as well as other tear down methods, conduct seam analysis on all in-one process cans at the specified frequency to analyze defective cans identified during processing. Sample and inspect cans and ends, according to the Iing Can Sampling program.
  • Responsible as replacement operator to cover shift during vacation time, personal time, or other time away from work following the crewing procedures.
  • Responsible for notifying Shift Manager if unable to report for work and during illness to specify date of return to work.
  • Be an active participant in Business Unit team meetings and other Plant meetings bymunicating timely and pertinent data when appropriate, and active involvement in analyzing, rmending, and implementing solutions to problems within the Business Unit and the Plant.
  • Ensure a smooth shift change transition (i.e.,municate problems/issues regarding operating equipment, uing quantity/flavor changes, review quality inspections, etc.)
  • Train new employees and co-workers.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks and corrective work orders, and work with other support personnel when operational problems occur. Provide data and information to support personnel, such as maintenance, to facilitate the effectiveness of their performance.
  • Identify and correct equipment problems to maximize production efficiencies, and report potential equipment problems to maintenance.
  • Comply with area Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quality Assurance Parameters (QAPs), Good Manufacturing Process (GMPs) Procedures, and ISO Standards. Be knowledgeable in all required Quality Assurance checks and in HACCP related items.
  • Comply with allpany safety procedures and guidelines andply with allpany guidelines and policies.
  • Clean and sanitize machines to meet legal and quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized work area respecting GMP's.
  • Rotate positions with other Canning Team Members. Cross-train and achieve equipment operation certifications on all equipment within the Business Unit.
  • Ensure that job operations maintain or improve product quality. Stop and correct job operation if product quality is affected negatively.
  • Work daily overtime and weekends as required.
  • Maintain OSHA Certified Forklift License (if applicable).
  • Demonstrate good attendance.
  • Effectively read, write, speak andprehend English.
