About The Position

The Architecture and Building Technology Department at Springfield Technical Community College is seeking applications for an adjunct teaching position. Architecture and Building Technology is a two-year program of study that has been developed to build a solid foundation for study and professional exploration in the multi-faceted fields of Architectural Design and Building Construction. You will develop your design and presentation skills learning technical drawing and a variety of computer-aided design programs taught by the Valley's best professional designers. Students will develop a portfolio of design projects that will serve as part of their application requirement for future architectural studies at the University of Massachusetts or the Boston Architectural College, and for professional career placement. This program is available in both daytime and evening formats. IMPORTANT NOTE: Adjunct Instructor positions are part-time, semester-to-semester, non-benefited MCCC/MTA/DCE unit positions. This position reports to the Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Building Construction Management/Construction or Bachelor's degree in Architecture.
  • Expertise in the International Building codes for commercial and residential construction in Massachusetts.
  • 3-5 years of building construction industry related experience.
  • 2-3 years of successful higher education, secondary, and/or adult education teaching experience.

  • Professional licensing and certifications in Massachusetts related to architecture and/or building technology.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches a standard range of courses expected in the first two years of a degree program in the field of Architecture and Building Technology.
  • Conducts classes and prepares for instruction.
  • Assesses student performance and provides student assistance by appointment.
  • Collaborates with other division faculty and adjuncts to provide consistent learning objectives.
  • Engages in professional development and required trainings.
  • May teach courses across different modalities like online, hybrid, and face to face.
  • Meets all College policies and administrative deadlines.
